Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow

My Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

We are fast approaching the celebration of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time to notice, pay attention, take stock, and focus on each and every thing we are grateful for. Above all, it is a time set apart to express thanks to God. We have been blessed. Thanksgiving is a time to be a blessing to others.

This year I want to let you know how grateful I am for the Church, or as Primate Fred Hiltz says, “our beloved church.”

Our beloved church is not only the people – but a place where people gather. We gather week by week to continue to strengthen our faith, to keep on learning more about God, to expand our understanding of how to live the kind of life that is promised. It is a place where a people gather recognizing that even though we falter, stumble, make mistakes and fall short of the mark - even so - we gather to ask God’s forgiveness and God’s wisdom to teach us how to forgive as we have been forgiven. This place where forgiveness, healing, wholeness of life is not just something we sing – but something we aspire to. Something we pray for. We gather wanting our lives to be changed, shaped and transformed by God’s spirit. Church is the place which helps us gain strength for the journey. It is a place where we indulge in hope – hope that in the midst of present circumstances, God will work in us, and through us, and with us, to make a difference for good in the world God loves.

If the church has made a difference for good in your life, give thanks and share your good news story with others.

If you have been hurt by the church, we are sorry. This side of eternity, not one of us is perfect. Please give us another chance.

If you are looking for a place to connect with others, grow in your faith, put your talents to work and an opportunity to ask challenging questions about God and life, – the church has a place for you.

Every blessing to you and yours,
Reverend Cathy Pharo

Good morning God

Another day and another experience of a frenetic mind that wants to respond to the hearts desire of sharing the good news of God’s abiding, abundant, all-encompassing love. So many thoughts – too many ideas!

Connect with youth. Invite to upcoming events. Visit the hospital. Share a prayer. Make a phone call. Send a note of thanks. Drop in on the lonely. Prepare a sermon that inspires and provokes. Finalize fall schedule. Plant the seed. Nurture new leadership. Pave the way. Call this one, write that one, visit, encourage, grapple, challenge, resist, rebuke. Sigh! But before all this – read, rest, reflect, pray!

From Celtic Daily Prayer:
All that I am Lord – I place into Your hands
All that I do Lord, - I place into Your hands
Everything I work for – I place into Your hands
Everything I hope for – I place into Your hands
Each that I pray for – I place into Your hands
Each that I care for – I place into Your hands
The church that I love – I place into Your hands
The people that I serve – I place into Your hands
The troubles that weary me – I place into Your hands
The thoughts that disturb me – I place into Your hands

Show me what blessing it is that I have work to do
And sometimes, and most of all when the day is overcast and my courage faints
Let me hear Your voice saying, “Be still and know that I am God.”
